Las Meninas Reloaded

December 12, 2013

Taking a picture (with my GX7) of my friend who is taking a picture (with his EP3) inside the American Indian Museum :

(I wish I knew what his camera captured at that moment...)

So, what's the point?

Not sure if there's anybody behind me right now taking a picture of me taking a picture of my friend taking a picture of whatever inside the American Indian Museum. Maybe there was even another guy behind the three of us..., or one behind the four of us, or we were standing in a circle and the guy behind the four of us was the subject of my friend's photograph, ... ;-) Got it? I had a similar story called Las Meninas am Leuchtenbergring on Brobo Photo in June 2007.

I'm sure most of you do know, but for those who don't: "Las Meninas" is a 17th century painting of Diego Velazquez that plays with realities inside and outside the picture space. Wikipedia knows: "The work's complex and enigmatic composition raises questions about reality and illusion, and creates an uncertain relationship between the viewer and the figures depicted.". How true! Take a look yourself.

I have already photographed the American Indian Museum before, posted under the title "My Normal Eye" on Potomac Adventures. The light pattern  featured in the picture above can also be seen in picture #6 of the older post.
