Supply and Demand
As many of you know, computer book publisher Addison-Wesley has basically ceased to exist in Germany (see, for example, the following note on the "Heise Newsticker"). Like other Addison-Wesley books, the paper version of my "Handbuch der Java-Programmierung" has not been reprinted, is no longer available and will never be produced and distributed by Addison-Wesley again (for some time, you can get a kindle edition, though). Fortunately, I found a new publisher (a great one, by the way ;-) and we're looking forward to releasing the 8th edition of the Java Handbook next spring.
As a side note, my new publisher pointed out that they're having difficulties to purchase copies of the 7th edition (which they need for their own editors), even though they had contacted book distributors in Germany and Switzerland. I noticed that there is only a single copy available at amazon.de right now, and that it costs about three times as much as the original:
You know what? I like it :-)
Looks like the "HJP7" turns into a highly valuable collectible. Buy it, folks - if you can get one! I still have my own copy at home, so I'm really looking forward to selling it when it turns to 5 grands or more ;-)
